The Utah Beef Council (UBC) is responsible for the promotion and marketing of beef and beef products in Utah. The UBC is funded by the national Beef Checkoff and state beef promotion programs. In Utah, a $1.50 per head is assessed on the sale of cattle. Checkoff dollars are used to increase beef demand through programs of promotion, research and education. The UBC is directed by a board of cattlemen and cattlewomen who represent the state's cattle producers.
Local state programs aim to follow similar objectives to the Beef Industry Long Range Plan. Each year a marketing plan is created by the beef council board to meet goals and objectives in promoting beef locally. This plan is reviewed and approved by USDA. All programs fit under the categories of promotion, consumer information and industry information.
